Rider Level Evaluation
The Equestrian Canada (EC) Learn to Ride program is the national standard for horsemanship and riding proficiency. These evaluations provide riders of all ages with a structured pathway to track their progress, build confidence, and ensure they are developing safe, effective habits in and out of the saddle.

Pathway 1: Virtual Strategy Session
VIRTUAL
Investment: $45 + HST (30–40 Minute Video Call)Virtual Technical Assessment: A comprehensive video consultation to determine your ideal entry level and certification path.
Equestrian Experience Audit: A deep-dive review of your riding background, current skill set, and long-term athletic goals.
Official Process Guidance: Direct expert answers to your questions regarding the national Equestrian Canada standards.

Pathway 2: In-Person Skill Assessment
IN-PERSON
Investment: $60 + HST (Travel fees apply for off-site)In-Person Technical Session: A focused, 1-on-1 riding session to evaluate your current proficiency and horsemanship.
Comprehensive Performance Review: Detailed verbal and written analysis of your technical strengths and developmental milestones.
Strategic Evaluation Roadmap: Targeted "next-step" recommendations to ensure you are fully prepared for the official evaluation.
Fully Tailored Curriculum: Custom session focus—choose from riding, groundwork, or a hybrid approach based on your goals.

Pathway 3: The Official Evaluation
Investment: $60 + HST (Travel fees apply for off-site)National Performance Standard: A formal, in-person assessment conducted strictly according to Equestrian Canada’s national rubrics.
Three-Pillar Assessment: Comprehensive evaluation of your skills across Written Theory, Stable Management, and Mounted Performance.
Official Certification Path: Successful completion results in nationally recognized credits toward your Equestrian Canada Rider Level certification.
Professional Oversight: Full administrative support, including the completion and submission of all required Rider Level paperwork to the federation.

No. Rider Level Evaluations, clinics, and guidance sessions are open to riders from all barns. Hosting facilities and visiting riders are welcome.

No. Rider Level Evaluations are assessments, not lessons. Coaching during the evaluation itself is limited, in accordance with Equestrian Canada evaluation standards. Riders seeking preparation or skill development are encouraged to book a guidance session, private lesson, or clinic prior to evaluation.

If you’re unsure which Rider Level is the best fit, starting with Virtual Rider Level Guidance or an In-Person Rider Level Guidance Lesson is recommended. These pathways provide clarity and help ensure riders register for an appropriate level before evaluation.

Participants are responsible for ensuring the following are in place prior to a Rider Level Evaluation or clinic:
• A valid Equestrian Canada Sport Licence (required for Rider Level Evaluations)
• Appropriate riding attire and approved safety equipment
• Well-fitting, safe tack and equipment suitable for the horse and activity
• A horse that is sound, suitable, and prepared
• Completed waivers and required forms
• Arrival with sufficient time to prepare prior to the scheduled startFor off-site clinics or evaluations, facility requirements (arena size, footing, and safety considerations) must be met and confirmed in advance.

No. Official Rider Level Evaluations are conducted in person only, in accordance with Equestrian Canada requirements. Virtual sessions are offered for guidance and level placement support only and do not include testing, scoring, or submission to Equestrian Canada.

Yes. Clinics require a minimum number of participants to proceed. If minimum participation is not met, the hosting facility or participants will be notified in advance and options for rescheduling will be discussed.

Yes. Clinics may be hosted off-site provided the facility meets safety, arena size, and footing requirements. Facility suitability and logistics will be reviewed and confirmed prior to booking.

Travel fees may apply for off-site guidance sessions, clinics, or evaluations. Travel costs are based on distance and time and will be discussed and confirmed in advance of booking.
